1. Wedding dress sizes don’t work like other dress sizes.
For most designers, bridal gowns run about two sizes smaller than regular street clothes.
2. A wing woman is a must and an entourage isn’t.
Bringing one really good friend with you can make all the difference. A few people (your mom, friend, future mother-in-law) is much better than bringing 6 people who might all have a different opinion.
3. Toned down makeup is best!
The last thing you want to do is buy a dress by default because of a big lipstick smear. If you wear makeup, by all means wear makeup while dress shopping. Just tone it down and be careful.
4. Bring multiple bras and pairs of shoes.
Most brides-to-be come to their appointment in street clothes, which means an ‘everyday bra’. But honestly, we know that’s not the bra you’ll be wearing on your wedding day. Bring a thinly-strapped, nude colored bra and a strapless bra. This way no matter which style you try on, there will less unruly underwear to distract you and alter the shape.
Bringing multiple pairs of shoes allows you to see how they change your body shape, how you move, and the length of the dress.
5. You will probably need alterations.
Everyone’s body shape is different and alterations are how to combat and compliment your unique shape. We rarely see women who can buy a gown and wear it as is. Plus, you want to look the best you can on your big day!
