So you’ve picked out your dress, and he’s picked out his suit. You’ve found the perfect location, and hired the most appropriate ceremonial staff. You are not done quite yet; in fact, one of the most important parts of a wedding still has to be planned! We are referring to the wedding reception (a.k.a what separates a good wedding from an amazing one). With a few of our tips, you will be on your way to planning the reception of everyone’s dreams.
Ah yes, the dreaded first dance. Many couples get shivers from even thinking about this. We have all seen those videos — you know, where the couple has the most boring, drawn-out first dance with a terrible song selection. When planning your first dance, do NOT be afraid to have a little fun with it. Whether that means starting with some bossa-nova and ending with electronic house music, or have a pre-choreographed mashup of songs. You could even go as far as to distribute a “menu” of these songs explaining why you chose them. As one of the first parts of the evening, it will shape how the rest of the evening goes.
Have a pre-planned schedule for the kids at the wedding
If you decide to have children at your wedding, it is equally important to keep them, along with their parents, entertained throughout the evening. This is due to the fact that a happy child means a happy parent. If the kids do not want to leave, you will not have to worry about any guests leaving early!
Have the right kind of entertainment
We are mainly referring to the music here. Every wedding needs good music; better yet, every part of life needs good music. And today’s possibilities of music are absolutely boundless. By this we mean that you can have a full band, a DJ, or even an app that acts as your DJ.
With a full band, it is important to keep things upbeat and pumping. The minute the music slows down guests will want to leave. That being said, no on expects the band to play for the entire length of the reception; instead, have an iPod on Spotify or another music streaming service (when doing this, be sure to stream the appropriate music for your guests.)
When it comes to having a DJ, not much can go wrong. We recommend you to go over the setlist and appropriate playlists with the DJ. One thing a DJ can provide when compared to a band is a constantly changing, more colorful atmosphere.
Give your guests a fun item
Give my guests something? This is the question we hear every time we suggest this idea. Sure, it is your party, and you two should be the only ones receiving gifts right? No, while that is partially true, a small gift can go a huge way with your guests.
These are just a few of our favorite tips and tricks to help you have the best reception possible. Just remember, a happy guest is the only kind of guest you want at such an event.
