Wedding dress shopping can be a challenge. You want to look your best, but there are just so many choices! Every body type will be best complemented by a different gown silhouette, so before you even begin gown shopping it’s important to know your body type. Do you would have a pear, an hourglass, or a petite frame?
Once you know your body type, you can choose from these different styles of gowns:
A-Line: A-Lines have a fitted bodice through the waist, and then they flow to the ground. They look like the letter ‘A’, hence the name. These dresses are perfect for any body type. There is also a ‘modified’ A-Line gown, which is still fitted to the bodice, but then flares gradually to the hem. It fits closer to the body than the traditional A-Line. Perfect for all body types.
Ball Gown: Ball Gowns are a more traditional dress, these remind of princesses in fairy tales. They have a fitted bodice and a full skirt that flairs at the wait. These are also great for most body types but are especially perfect for those who are pear shaped, as they hide the lower body. Petites should avoid them, because the skirt can be overwhelming on smaller frames.
Mermaid: These gowns are fitted from the chest to the knee and then flare. These look wonderful on slender frames and hourglass body types. Plus sizes and apple-shaped body types will want to avoid these.
Sheath: These popular gowns are narrow; they flow straight down from the neckline to the hem. These are perfect for those with lean body types, and look great on petites. If you have an hourglass frame but want to show off your curves, this is the gown for you! Those with a pear-shaped body will want to avoid a sheath.
